Youth of the Year

West Virginia Youth of the Year Celebration

Every spring, the Youth of the Year from each Club organization from WV come together for a two-day event that celebrates their achievements and conducts a process to select the West Virginia Youth of the Year. The West Virginia Area Council provides scholarships to the state winner, who then goes on to compete in the Southeast Youth of the Year event held every summer. The WV Youth of the Year serves as an ambassador for the Club members in our state and speaks at several statewide events during the year.

Marissa Gutierrez – Boys & Girls Club of Pleasants County

Marissa has been a member of the Boys & Girls Club of Pleasants County for 9 years.  She would like to attend West Virginia University with a career choice in graphic design and business advertising.  Marissa comes from a diverse family and both sides of her heritage have impacted her and helped define who she is.  She and her family have faced some incredibly difficult personal circumstances during the past eight months and her depth of leadership and service at home has been critical to the family’s well-being.  Marissa has shown what hard work, integrity and family support is all about.

Congratulations to Marissa!
